Ship chartering companies in India: a contact directory for marine cargo operators

Ten independent small scale chartering and marine cargo operators across Mumbai, Chennai, Gujarat, Vizag, Kolkata and Goa, with phone numbers, addresses and an honest note on which LinkedIn pages could be verified.

Most officers hunting for a chartering job apply to the same ten large names everyone else applies to. The smaller operators are where a lot of first shore roles actually come from, and they are much harder to find because they rarely advertise.

This directory covers ten independent, small scale ship chartering and marine cargo operators in India, compiled from public business directories. It is a starting point for outreach, not a list of open vacancies.

How to approach a company this size

A small operator will not have a careers page or a recruitment team. A cold email that reads like a mass application gets deleted. A short, specific one from a serving or recently sailing officer usually gets read, because they know exactly how rare it is to hire someone who already understands laytime, stowage and port call realities.

  • Write to a named person where you can find one, not to a generic info address.
  • Say what you have sailed on and what you are looking for in two sentences. Attach a CV translated into shore language rather than rank language.
  • Ask for a conversation, not a job. Smaller firms hire when someone useful appears, rather than to a schedule.
  • Follow up once after about ten days, then leave it. Keep a note of who you contacted and when.

If you want more background on the commercial side before you start reaching out, the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers route is the standard qualification for this work, and even the first paper gives you vocabulary that makes these conversations easier.
